Hypnosis and hypnotherapy for OCD

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy for OCDAn OCD can be incredibly debilitating, a person with obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD suffers with intrusive thoughts that make them feel compelled to do certain things, follow certain rituals with repetitive behaviours.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is thought to affect 2-3% of the UK population. People with OCD often realize their thoughts and the actions they follow through are irrational, which in turn creates further distress. The culmination of these thoughts (obsessive) and behaviours (compulsions) can make the person feel like they have a case of the mental hiccups that won’t go away.

Obsessions are thoughts, images, or impulses that occur over and over again and feel out of the person control. The person does not want to have these ideas. People with OCD worry excessively about dirt and germs and become obsessed with the idea that they are contaminated or contaminate others.  Things have to be done in a way that is "just so."

Compulsions People with OCD try to make their obsessions go away by performing compulsions. Compulsions are acts the person performs over and over again, often according to certain "rules". People with an obsession about contamination may wash constantly or spend hours in the shower and bathroom. A person may repeatedly check that they have locked the front door or closed the windows. They may have to count certain objects over and over perhaps until its done to a specific number of times or  feels like its okay to move on now.

OCD recognize that their obsessions are coming from  their own minds this makes them excellent subject for hypnosis. With a treatment of hypnotherapy the person with obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD can be shown a new focus of thoughts. A person with OCD typically requires a hypnotherapy treatment plan totaling around four to five hours of hypnosis over a number weeks.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron, and Billy Bob Thornton are just a few celebrities that have experienced OCD. Oscar-winner Charlize Theron has a problem with cabinets -- messy ones. The Oscar-winning explained she suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD "I actually have a serious problem -- obsessive compulsive disorder," she was quoted saying in London's Daily Mail. "I have a problem with cabinets being messy and people just shoving things in and closing the door. I will lie in bed and not be able to sleep because I'll say to myself: 'I think I saw something in that cabinet that just shouldn't be there.'"
