There are some fun aspects to consider that will naturally help to reframe your mind-set. Let’s talk about the power and benefits of laughter!

Laughter affects our ‘state’ behaviour. The ‘state’ behaviour is the emotional state you are in at any one time and it will affect your response to a given stimulus. Such states are a part of our day-to-day life. Some states bring us empowerment, whereas others limit our potential. We need to identify the triggers that cause these states and see if we can alter them positively. Laughter alters our state behaviour in a very similar fashion as does music. Laughter has wonderful effects on our emotional states!

The Importance of Laughter Concerning Your Weight Loss Goals:

You have undoubtedly heard that laughter is the best medicine. Well, it also happens to be an excellent weight loss assistant! There are loads of healthful benefits associated with laughter, so many in fact that they cannot be measured. Here are just a few of them:

  • Laughter increases circulation. Increased circulation in turn, helps boost the metabolism and deliver oxygen and nutrients to all cellular structures.
  • Laughing obviously provides you with an effective abdominal workout. Remember the times when you have laughed so hard that your stomach hurt? Exactly!
  • Laughter signals the brain to release those “feel-good” hormones. Epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine just to name a few. These are very powerful and help you to battle depression amongst other things. And let’s not forget that depression is a commonly-experienced side effect of obesity.
  • Laughter is a great stress reducer/reliever. When we find humour in common situations, we capacitate ourselves to maintain a healthy outlook and especially in situations, where we would otherwise crash and fall under the seemingly heavy loads.

It is therefore very necessary to intentionally scout for and find humour in every situation. It doesn’t have to jump out at you. Search for a reason to laugh. And, if you can’t find a reason, laugh anyway! That’s right, just start laughing, do it for no reason at all. You can trick your brain and actually start laughing for real. It is a blast to laugh at nothing. Try it right now – C’mon, we’ll do it together:

Getting the point? Laughter is a good thing, a very good thing indeed. Don’t ever allow anyone to scorn you or make you feel bad, for trying to see at least a little humour in every given situation. Even in seemingly-morbid times, there’s always a little bit of something to laugh at! Use your imagination…

  • Tell yourself a silent joke;
  • Do a little jig for no reason;
  • Sing yourself a silly song;
  • It doesn’t matter what you do to make yourself laugh – just do something!

You will most probably find that others around you enjoy your silliness and start laughing with you. That’s because there is an innate element within all of us that enjoys laughing – it is something that we know internally that we should do often!
